This year we are excited to have some new faces here at Bradford Schools. In order to help you get to know them we have asked our staff to answer some questions. Each month we will highlight one of these staff members. This month we are highlighting our new 4th Grade Teacher, Mrs. Unthank.
1. Tell us a little about yourself. Where are you from? Where did you go to school? Tell us about your family.
I attended Miamisburg City Schools growing up until I attended MVCTC. I lived on a farm in Germantown with my parents and sister. The past 5 years I have lived in Arcanum with my husband, Jon and my two sons. (Blaine 11 and Sawyer 4 months). My husband farms for a living so we keep busy year around. My son Blaine is very active with 4-H and plays baseball year around. I have 4 dogs and pot-belly pig named Cupcake.
I attended IU East where I studied Elementary Education with a focus in Early Childhood Education and Special Education.
2. What are you looking forward to this school year?
I am looking forward to getting to know Bradford as a community, the school staff, and the students. So far my experience has been nothing but positive and welcoming. I have learned so much about myself, as a teacher, and as a person- I cannot wait to learn more!
3. Who was your favorite teacher when you were growing up? Why?
My favorite teacher growing up would have to be Mr. Lyon’s, my agriculture instructor at MVCTC. I was a very quiet student when I first started MVCTC and preferred to just blend in with the ground. Mr. Lyon’s saw potential and a leader in me which no one else had ever seen. He pushed me to run for FFA office and take on several leadership roles. I became the Vice President and spoke in front of many groups- many times. This was a huge fear and something I would have never done without a special person pushing me- Mr. Lyons. Mr. Lyons to this day still checks on me and has always held a special place in my heart.
4. What are your hobbies?
Hobbies are something that has taken the back burner recently- having a 4 month old and 11 year old keeps me busy. But when I do find time- I enjoy baking, crafting, and anything that keeps me outdoors.
5. If you could have a cup of coffee with anyone living or dead, who would it be and why?
If I could have a cup of coffee with anyone I would choose my Great-Grandma who passed when I was younger. She was a passionate person who loved to life. I would love to talk about baking and cooking- she passed down so many recipes that I love. I would also enjoy learning more about her childhood and how she managed to always be such a strong person.
